World-renowned conductor and composer Carl Davis composed the original score for CNN's 24-hour documentary series COLD WAR. Davis is a conductor with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the RTL Symphony Orchestra and the Munich Symphony Orchestra.
Davis has a varied repertoire, having conducted his own compositions, standard classical and popular works. His memorable score for "Napoleon" helped inspire the creation of the Thames Silents, a division of Thames Television that puts music to silent films and has led to a worldwide revival of interest in silent film. Most recently, Davis completed a score commissioned by the Cinˇmathˇque de Luxembourg for the 1928 silent film "Waterloo."
As part of the RLPO 150th-anniversary celebrations, Davis collaborated with Sir Paul McCartney on a full-length orchestral work, "Liverpool Oratorio," which premiered in 1991. Davis conducted the score in Spain, Japan, Canada, Germany and the United States. His latest silent movie score is for the 1996 Channel 4 presentation of "The Phantom of the Opera."
Davis won the BAFTA and Ivor Novello awards for the musical scores for "The World at War" and "The French Lieutenant's Woman." His other credits include "Scandal," "The Rainbow" and "Champions." Davis has a growing list of concert works, from his "Clarinet Concerto" to orchestral suites arranged from his film scores. Additionally, he has composed scores for major successes in the world of ballet, such as the award-winning "A Simple Man."
