Perhaps the most devastating weapon on the Cold War's invisible front was the mole. To intelligence services, few operations, with the possible exception of code-breaking, were as rewarding as the successful infiltration of enemy agencies or enemy secret projects. A good mole could expose a wealth of secrets, including current and future covert operations, the identity of enemy agents, tradecraft and classified technology.
